What Is the AAR Test?
The AAR (Association of American Railroads) test is a mandatory safety and performance certification required for Flexitanks used in rail transport across North America. It involves rigorous simulations of real-world rail conditions, including longitudinal impacts, vibrations, and structural stress tests, to ensure that Flexitanks can safely withstand the dynamic forces encountered during transit.
Passing this test is mandatory for any Flexitank brand wishing to transport non-hazardous liquids by rail in the U.S. and Canada.
This certification is officially recognized by CN Rail (Canadian National Railway)—Canada’s largest railway company—as well as all major Class I railroads in North America such as BNSF, CSX, NS. These operators require that all equipment used in intermodal transport meet AAR standards to ensure cargo safety and rail network integrity.
By meeting these requirements, LiquA Flexitanks are now approved for use on CN Rail routes, unlocking access to safer, cost-effective, and sustainable rail logistics across Canada and the United States.
